Libraries Day 2024: IEU Library’s Commitment to Sustainability

At IEU Library, we are committed to building a more sustainable future. Our efforts have focused on integrating sustainability into our resources and services. We have undertaken various activities and programs that showcase our commitment to sustainability:

  1. Educational Outreach on the SDGs: We actively promote knowledge and awareness around the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. Through workshops, seminars, and curated collections of academic resources, we empower our users to engage in addressing critical global issues such as gender equality, following our Purple Corner section.
  2. Sustainable Library Operations: We continuously seek ways to reduce our carbon footprint by adopting environmentally friendly practices. These include reducing paper usage and always aiming to  have an extensive Online Worldwide Catalog.
  3. Partnerships for Innovation and Impact: Collaboration is the core to our sustainability strategy. The library partners with various stakeholders within and outside IE University, contributing to research projects, sustainable development programs, and open-access initiatives that foster a culture of shared knowledge and resources.
  4. Green Procurement and Recycling Programs: We are committed to responsible procurement processes that prioritize sustainable products and services. Additionally, our recycling initiatives encourage the community to participate in waste reduction efforts on campus, such as the Bookcrossing section.

Our Mission for the Future

Our vision extends far beyond supporting academic research. At IEU Library, sustainability is an ongoing journey that influences our everyday decisions and long-term goals. We aim to be a leading example of how libraries can contribute to the SDGs by promoting open access to information, fostering inclusive education, and adopting sustainable practices.
