IE LIBRARY RECEIVES RECOGNITION FROM THE AMERICAN LIBRARY ASSOCIATION

IE Library has been awarded by the ALA (American Library Association) international program 2020 ‘Best Practices from World Libraries Photo Gallery’, thanks to the Purple Corner initiative. This recognition proves IE Library’s commitment to promote social justice and inclusion.

All the projects presented had to be related to the theme proposed by ALA this year: the importance of libraries in promoting social justice and inclusion in society. The Purple Corner is a space in IE Library that offers resources on gender equality: monthly recommended readings, bibliography on gender studies, brochures with practical information and a guestbook. It was created in collaboration with the Vice-Rectorate of Students and the Junta de Castilla y León. This initiative contributes to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals, specifically number 5, Gender Equality.

The award-winning photo collection has been selected by the IRRT (International Relations Round Table) Committee on International Connections. The ALA has spent years promoting democracy, diversity, social responsibility, lifelong learning and professionalism within the framework of library science. The set of images acknowledged with this distinction illustrates the will of innovation of the selected libraries and their impact in building strong and inclusive communities around the world.
