The second session of the Open Science: Meet & Greet Breakfast Series took place on June 3, offering a new opportunity for researchers to connect, learn, and discuss key topics in Open Science over coffee and light refreshments. This time, the spotlight was on Open Access Fundamentals, a topic of growing importance in the evolving landscape of scholarly communication.
Led by Alicia Fátima Gómez and Patricia Riba, the session provided an accessible overview of Open Access essentials, under the title “Open Science Meet & Greet: Open Access Fundamentals”. The presentation covered a wide range of topics, including the basic principles and requirements of Open Access publishing, the differences between Open Access “colours” (green, gold, diamond, bronze, and others), and how to choose and apply the appropriate Creative Commons licences.
The role of repositories in increasing the visibility and long-term preservation of research was also discussed, along with the types of institutional and library support available to help researchers comply with Open Access mandates.
Once again, participants showed strong engagement, asking thoughtful questions and sharing their experiences with open access publishing. These interactive sessions continue to foster a collaborative space where the research community can learn about Open Science practices and tools that support greater transparency, accessibility, and impact.
