Open Science, Open Learning: libraries’ role supporting European Higher Education

UNED Library and the UNESCO Chair in Distance Education (CUED) have held the International Conference Open Libraries: Open Science, open learning, in Madrid, from September 30th to October 3rd. This international event brought together researchers, librarians, and academic staff to explore the evolving role of libraries in supporting open science and learning in universities, particularly in Europe.

This participation highlights the library’s commitment to fostering innovation in academic support and collaboration within the European academic community. We had the chance to listen to Open Science professionals talk about the impact of open science policies on research, Open Access Policies, the evolution of Repositories, and more.

The conference has featured a wide range of presentations and discussions. Some key topics include:

  • Research Information Systems and Open Science: highlighting how systems like CRIS support open access and research management
  • Artificial Intelligence in Education: A look at the impact of AI on learning processes and technologies.
  • Rights Policies and Open Access: A focus on open science policies and their challenges for universities and publishers.
  • Future of Libraries in Open Science: A roundtable on how libraries can evolve to support open science initiatives better.
