On February 8, 2024, the IEU Library attended the REBIUN Training Session on Generative Artificial Intelligence for Academic Libraries, held at the University of Valladolid.
This event brought together library professionals from across Spain to explore the impact of generative AI on academic library services. During the session, experts discussed ethical considerations, AI-driven research support, and the potential of AI tools in library workflows. The sessions provided valuable insights into how libraries can integrate AI responsibly while maintaining academic integrity.
In his presentation Jorge Franganillo discussed the practical applications of AI tools in academic settings and showed how these technologies can enhance research processes, emphasizing the importance of understanding AI’s limitations and biases to avoid the so-called “hallucinations”—inaccurate or misleading outputs generated by AI systems.
IEU Library recognizes that while generative AI offers exciting possibilities, it is essential to approach these tools with a critical mindset. Librarians play a key role in guiding researchers on how to effectively leverage AI while maintaining academic integrity. By providing training on information literacy and critical evaluation, the library supports the research community in navigating this evolving landscape.
To achieve this, we actively engaged in discussions, sharing perspectives of the evolving role of librarians considering the impact of AI in the academia. Attending events like this reinforces IEU Library’s commitment to innovation and continuous learning to support its academic community.
We are proud to support IE University’s diverse community and look forward to further enriching our knowledge with materials, AI tools & databases.
