Inside the Session: How to Manage Your Digital Academic Profile

The latest session in our training series brought together researchers eager to strengthen one of the most essential aspects of academic life today: managing a coherent and reliable digital academic identity. A well-maintained profile not only helps unify your publications, projects, affiliations, and funded research, but also ensures they are accurately attributed and visible across platforms.

Titled “Manage your academic identity: ORCID, Researcher ID, and Scopus Author ID”, the session offered a clear and practical walkthrough of the tools that help researchers control how their work is represented online. Participants explored the purpose and scope of the most widely used researcher identifiers, including ORCID, Web of Science ResearcherID, Scopus Author ID, and Google Scholar.

The session guided attendees through the process of creating, completing, and updating an ORCID profile, as well as managing their identifiers on Web of Science and Scopus. A key focus was on how linking these profiles can support automation, improve accuracy, and reduce the administrative burden associated with keeping research outputs up to date.

Best practices for maintaining a robust academic identity were highlighted, including the role of platforms such as ResearchGate. By understanding how these systems interact, researchers can ensure their academic footprint remains consistent, discoverable, and aligned with institutional and funder requirements.

Engagement was high throughout the session, with participants actively discussing their experiences and exploring strategies to improve the visibility and integrity of their scholarly record. These trainings continue to foster an environment where the IE community can strengthen essential research skills supported by Guillermo & Michèle de la Dehesa Library.
