On November 19th, members of the IEU Library attended the XI Jornada Actualízate titled “This Is Not Another AI Workshop: Let’s Talk About Data Science First,” organized by SEDIC in collaboration with the Library Science Department of the Universidad Complutense de Madrid. They explored the transformative potential of data science and artificial intelligence (AI) there. The event emphasized how these technologies reshape organizations, optimize processes, and enhance decision-making capabilities.
The conference featured three sessions:
- Session 1: New Professional Profiles and Training Needs
This session addressed the evolving role of information professionals and the innovative opportunities arising from automation. Discussions highlighted the need to update training programs and methodologies to meet the demands of a rapidly changing landscape. Alicia Fátima Gómez, IEU Library Director, was one of the speakers.
- Session 2: Ethics for Data and Artificial Intelligence
In this panel discussion, experts explored the ethical challenges of AI and data usage, focusing on privacy, transparency, and security. Participants shared strategies for developing frameworks to ensure the responsible application of these technologies.
- Session 3: Data Science Applications in Information Units
The final session showcased practical applications of data science in libraries and archives. Case studies demonstrated how data analysis and AI can optimize collection management, enhance user experiences, and personalize services.
