Inspiring the Next Generation of Readers: Claret School Visit

The IEU Library welcomed around 90 Year 2 pupils from Claret School in Segovia for a day of discovery, creativity, and learning, as part of an initiative designed to inspire a lifelong love of reading and introduce young learners to the world of libraries.

Working in collaboration with several IE University departments, our librarians delivered three interactive workshops that invited the children to experience what it is like to be librarians for a day. Through hands-on activities, they explored the role of libraries, discovered how books are organised, and learned how libraries help people find, share, and create knowledge.

The visit also encouraged the pupils to talk about their favourite books and reading experiences, creating a space where curiosity and enthusiasm for reading could flourish. By sharing stories with one another, the children discovered new perspectives while celebrating the joy of books and learning.

To conclude the programme, the Library introduced the students to the concept of Citizen Science, demonstrating that scientific research is not limited to laboratories or universities. The children learned how people of all ages can contribute to real research projects by collecting observations, recording data, and supporting scientific discoveries in their everyday lives.

This initiative reflects the IEU Library’s commitment to promoting literacy, curiosity, and lifelong learning beyond the university community. By opening our doors to local schools, we continue to strengthen our engagement with the community while encouraging the next generation to see libraries as welcoming spaces for exploration, creativity, and discovery.
