EU Library joined the First Meeting of the WMS User Group in Spain, held on 20 October at Complutense University of Madrid, contributing its experience as an early adopter of the library management platform. The event brought together institutions using WorldShare Management Services (WMS) and international OCLC specialists to exchange knowledge, discuss shared challenges and identify priorities for future development.
As the first institution in Spain and the second in Europe to implement WMS, IEU Library has accumulated practical experience that can support other libraries adopting and using the platform. Participation in this new group creates opportunities to share that knowledge while learning from the approaches and needs of other institutions.
Discussions focused on how developments in WMS and WorldCat Discovery can help users find relevant materials more easily, increase the visibility of open access resources and improve library operations. For students and faculty, these areas are closely connected to discovering and accessing information for coursework, teaching and research.
Presentations also introduced research and development initiatives exploring connections between library collections and AI assistants, as well as integration with learning platforms. These initiatives consider how library resources could become more accessible within the digital environments used by the university community.
The meeting established a forum for continued dialogue between libraries in Spain and the teams developing these technologies. By bringing institutional needs and everyday experience into those conversations, participating libraries can help inform future improvements.
For IEU Library, this collaboration connects technological innovation with the practical needs of its community. Sharing expertise, learning from peers and maintaining direct dialogue with OCLC supports the ongoing development of services for teaching, learning and research, while strengthening cooperation across the library sector.
