Borrowing Books at IEU Library: Holds, Pick-Up Points, and Loan Rules

Finding and borrowing printed materials at IEU Library is easier than it seems, especially if you know how to place a hold and where to pick up your books on each campus.

All library loans are personal and non-transferable. While most of the Library’s collection is available electronically through the catalog, printed materials can be borrowed directly from the library using the DiY IEU Library App. Self-borrowing is mandatory for printed items, and if you experience any difficulties during the process, a librarian will be happy to assist you.

If the item you need is already on loan, or if you want to make sure it is ready for you, you can place a hold through the User Portal on the library website or via the DiY IEU Library App. Simply search the catalog, click on “Place hold”, and select your preferred pickup location. Once the material is available, you will receive an email notification. From that moment, you will have two working days to collect it before it goes back to the shelves or is passed on to the next user in the queue.

How and where you pick up your books depends on your campus:

Segovia Library (Convento):
Collect your reserved items from the HOLDS trolley at the Smart Station, near the library’s main entrance, in front of the Reference Books shelves. Look for the envelope with your name, take it, and complete the self-borrowing process using the DiY IEU Library App.

María de Molina 31BIS Library:
Your envelope will be available on the trolley next to the librarian desk. Take it and self-borrow the item using the DiY IEU Library App.

IE Tower & Creative Campus:
Inform the librarian that you are there to collect a book on hold, and they will assist you with the pickup. Then, self-borrow the item using the DiY IEU Library App.

Please note that not all materials can be borrowed. Library-use only items, printed magazines, and certain special collections are excluded from the loan service. In addition, only PhD and DBA students, faculty, and staff are allowed to check out items from the PhD shelf area. Games must always be borrowed and returned at their original branch.

Finally, remember that returning items late or failing to collect reserved materials will result in sanction days. Unclaimed holds also generate sanctions, and inappropriate use of library materials may lead to temporary restrictions on library services, always with prior notice.

Knowing how the loan system works helps you save time, and ensures that everyone can make the most of IEU Library resources.
